I’ve started single malt whiskies with a bang – going directly with peated Laphroaig Quarter Cask but immediately I wanted to have something from the other side of the scale to balance it out. As it happened, my sister in law traveled abroad and I quickly looked at our Duty Free shop selection and asked her to bring me a bottle of Glenmorangie 10.
So this one was my first Glenmorangie bottle and it served me faithfully until it was finished couple of weeks ago. Good thing I remembered to write down some tasting notes with the last dram 🙂
Glenmorangie Original 10 yo (40%, Buy here for £29)
Nose: Sweet vanilla, Honey, citrus full of oranges blossom, creamy, malty cereal. not very complex but very enjoyable.
Palate: Citrus and sweetness Followed by some spicy and peppery oak wood.
Finish: Short finish. Some oak and spiciness, all layered with sweet honey.
Conclusion: One of the good low level single malts. A great starter whisky for newbies coming over from simple blends into single malt whiskies. It was one of my first purchases and I’m happy it was my first non-peated whisky bottles.

Exactly! This is the one dram I’m giving to people I try to convert into single malts.
