Whisky Review – Bunnahabhain Sgeul na mara (Feis Ile 2013 bottling)

Feis Ile 2014 is almost behind us with only two more distilleries to visit. Today, the Islay visitors will go east to visit Bunnahabain and what’s better than a review of a Bunnahabhain Feis Ile bottling?

Bunnahabhain Sgeul na mara was the distillery bottling for 2013 and I put my hands on a sample of it with the help of the Whisky Speller tandem (Thanks folks!).

So what do we know on this whisky? On 20th February 2003 it was poured in to sherry butt No. 79 and carefully positioned in warehouse No.7, So it’s a 10yo sherry matured bottled at cask strength. let’s see how it fares the sunlight

Whisky Review – Bunnahabhain Darach Ur Batch 9

Another whisky I tasted last month during a local whisky tasting charity event was the Bunnahabhain Darach Ur. I love the Bunnahabhain 12 (which I tasted blind. review is here), and I need to open and taste some of their older stuff I have here. But it was a nice surprise to encounter and taste their NAS offering.

Darach Ur was launched for travel retail and the name “Darach Ur” is Gaelic for “New Oak” – a reference to the fact that this whisky is matured exclusively in new American oak casks. Darach Ur is a very successful expression and reached Batch #10 already despite being available only at airports and other travel retail shops. Whisky Review – Douglas Laing Bunnahabhain “Young & Feisty” Provenance 9yo

Another day, another young whisky. Yeah, let’s follow yesterday’s young one and check another one and see if it’s any good, and this time a Bunnahabhain, bottled by Douglas McGibbons Co (sister company of Douglas Laing).

Bunnahabhain is one of two distilleries I couldn’t manage to squeeze into my schedule when I visited Islay last October. Old Bunna whiskies are considered very good and are cherished by whisky lovers. That said, I do love their standard 12 yo bottle and I heard good things on previous Y&F Bunnas, so I was curious to see what Douglas Laing McGibbons has prepared for us when they released a new youngish 9 yo Bunna, bottled winter 2014, under their “Young & Feisty” line.

Whisky Review – Bunnahabhain 12

Blind drams – love ’em and hate ’em. Each blind dram is a way to redeem your self-esteem and showcase you knowledge as whisky blogger, but it’s also a way to really embarrass yourself with way off the mark guesses (which is more often then not) and tarnish your reputation…

I’ve got this generous sample from another Israeli whisky geek (Thanks A.!) and like a fool I manage to stop him from telling me what this one is before he spilled the beans. Seriously, I should declare temporary insanity…
