Whisky Review & Tasting Notes – Talisker Distillers Edition (2002-2013)

We continue with our Talisker appreciation week and we move on to the next Talisker in line: The Talisker Distillers Edition. The latest edition (2014) was released only last week to stores (on offer for €45 only here) so we’ll review last year edition.

Talisker Distillers edition takes the Talisker spirit and adds 2nd cask finishing using Amoroso casks – sweet Italian fortified wine casks.

How does the smoky Talisker spirit handles the sweet wine finish?

Talisker Distillers Edition (2002-2013) (43%, £54.95 / €60 )

talisker-2002-2013-the-distillers-edition-dbLargeNose:  Oh, no doubt sherry cask is involved here, sherry sweetness mixed with smoke, abundant mix of spices are thrown in, juicy, bittersweet oranges, chocolate, nutmeg and of course the pepper signature of Talisker.

Palate: Starts sweet then turns woody, almost getting bitter but then turns back to safer water with spices galore.

Finish: Oak, sweetness, hint of cinnamon and other spices, warm feeling.

Thoughts: Improved Talisker experience for me as I do like those smoky and peaty whiskies with added sweetness. It retains the good things of Talisker and adds the sweet wine layer and it works well together here. Good dram.
